HF Multiband vertical antenna selection

Posted on March 9, 2010September 10, 2010 by Simone

Vertical Antenna Comparison

After a long research on antenna makers websites I’ve produced a quick reference chart to compare most popular HF multiband vertical antennas.

This table will help me on choosing my next vertical antenna.

Populatrity of antennas has been decided by visiting eham reviews, qrz.com forums, and other local ham radio communities.

Price comparison has been done by quering eruopean dealers, and asking for better quotations without considering delivery costs but including VAT where needed.

Attached to this post you will find a PDF file with the full technical comparison.

I think the gap Titan is a good choice. I have a gap challenger. I’ve heard many good things about the hy gain av 640 and would like one so I’m wondering why you chose the Titan over it?
I also use a big loop.

    So Simone,
I see you left out one of the most popular verticals of all times! Designed in the late 1950’s and still the best! Look up Newtronics Hustler TV4B ,TV5B and TV6B vertical. Better than half the price as the ones you mention and for performance, just read the reports from the same site you list. Oh and you can buy 17m/160m and a 30m add-on for around $100 USD each or simply hang the proper length wire 6″ along side the vertical and you have just added 3 more bands for next to nothing. I added the 17m wire and my first call was into the Canary Islands with 100 watts!
