Homebrew G5RV

A homebrew G5RV (PVC pipe used for center insulator and mast)

G5RV Size Legs Vert. radiator (300 ohm twin lead)
10-40m 26′-6″each 14′-3″
10-80m 51′ each 29′-6″
10-160m 101′-6″ each 53′

Notes:

  • 1. Use a minimum of 50 feet of coax (I prefer RG-8X) for 10-40 meter size and 100 feet of coax for other sizes.
  • 2. You can “hardwire” all connections (solder and waterproof) or use 1:1 balun (CT) for twin lead to coax connection if concerned with TVI as I was operating from an apartment (or 8-10 turns of 6″ diameter on coax for homebrew choke may work for you). Spi-Ro Manufacturing makes neat baluns with screw terminals (www.spiromfg.com).

  1. How did you arrive at lengths for twin lead and legs? Did velocity factor figure into your equation? de n4iyx
