Great article and easy to understand...I will be constructing one of these very shortly, all I need is another 200pF capacitor.

Can someone tell me the dimensions and capacitor value I'd need for one of these things just for 40 meters? I am interested only in QRP so I think a high voltage cap could be subbed for something more practically obtainable. I'd like to be able to use 3/4 in. dia copper pipe about 4 feet long on a side; is that an OK size? I've heard that I should be using just under 1/4 wavelength circumference, however. This would require about 8 ft. pipes; kind of spend-ee. I'm really cramped for space but I could do a close to 8 ft. square hoop.

Jimmy Carey -

The magic number is 25.4, that is, 25.4 mm = 1 inch. It's a cinch! Of course I draw buildings all day, so it's useful to me. Other than length, the other really useful one is area 1 sq. m. = 10.76 sq. ft.

As long as you can remember those two, you can compute your way to anything else.

I have build and use magnetic loop antenna, and I realy like because is simple and real nice performing in one city where sometime the noise is at S5 S6.
Thanks

Making my own magnetic loop antenna for HF sounds confusing and complicated. Is there a version I can buy already-made rather than buying all the materials to make my own? I realize that it will probably double the cost or something, but I just don't have the time to do something like that.

I was wondering if you have this drawing avalible in Inches? Also I am a little confused on the coax connection to the loop???

Would you have any pictures you could share??
I teach a few antenna classes a year, and this
would be a great club project. Please e-mail
me more information on this antenna, as I
would really like to develope this
into a Club Project.

Thanks!

Hi, Stan....

I live in a townhome and have a coaxial trap dipole in the attic. I just came across your message on the 32" loop. Wonder if you are still using it and what you think of it. I'm looking for a second antenna in the attic.

Thanks...
